Success Tips
A few small things make a big difference. Follow these tips to get the most beautiful restoration of your photo.
Start with the best copy you have
If you have the original print, use that — not a photo of a photocopy or a screenshot. The more detail in the source, the more detail FixPix can recover.
Scan when you can
A flatbed scanner at 600 dpi produces the cleanest input. If you don't have a scanner, most public libraries and pharmacies offer scanning for a small fee.
If you must photograph it, use soft, even light
Lay the photo flat near a window on an overcast day, or in open shade outdoors. Avoid direct sunlight, flash, and overhead room lights — they cause glare and harsh shadows.
Shoot straight down and fill the frame
Hold your phone parallel to the photo, directly above the centre. Get close enough that the photo fills most of the frame, with just a small border showing.
Crop out the background
Trim away the table, frame, or surrounding clutter before uploading. FixPix focuses its attention on what's in the frame.
Upload the highest resolution you have
Don't email the photo to yourself first — many email apps shrink images. Transfer the original file directly, or upload from the device where it was scanned or shot.
One face, one photo works best
Portraits and small group shots restore beautifully. Very large group photos can still work, but expect softer detail on the smallest faces.
Got a tricky photo? Upload it anyway — you'll be surprised what FixPix can bring back.
